How is everyone today?  Are you ready for the weekend?  Did you stock up on some good reading material for the weekend? It is going to snow here this weekend so I have books lined up to read.

As it is going to snow here I thought of this cute book about snow for the children.  I hope you will share it with a child this weekend especially if you are having snow where you are in the world.

Grandmother Winter

Grandmother Winter spends all spring, summer, and fall taking care of her geese and gathering their feathers.  Why does she do this?

 She does this to bring the snow in winter. Of course, the snowfall is as soft as feathers and bright as a winter moon. Grandmother Winter makes a big quilt out of the goose feathers and when winter comes she shakes her big feather quilt and the snow falls softly down on all the earth. What does Grandmother Winter and the geese do after that?

Please read this great book to a child and it has wonderful pictures too.

Hello Everyone!

Did everyone have a good Christmas?  I sure hope so.  I hope each of you will have a blessed New Year!  I know the children have been enjoying Christmas Vacation but I know here where I am school starts back up on January 6.  So time is about to run out for vacation.  I hope everyone is ready to go back to work and to school.  Did anyone read any good books over vacation?  I sure hope so. :)

It is time to get the children back to reading a good book everyday plus their reading at school.  So I hope to start posting some good books for the children to check out and to start new adventures in this new year.

I would like to recommend a series of books for girls (5th grade on up) especially if they love horses .  The books are really good and there is a whole series of them by Lauren Brooke.

The series is called Heartland.  You may have heard that there is a great Canadian TV series called Heartland that is on every week.  It is a great show and I love it.  The series is based on the Heartland books.

So I would recommend trying both.  The library should have the books and the TV series on DVD.  I have watched them.

So please check out Heartland at your neighborhood library.

Hello Everyone!

How is everyone doing?  I am sorry I haven't been here in awhile but had some health issues and have been busy with some other things.  We lost our friend Hotshot in September and we have really missed him.  He was such a good friend to our family.  We now have a new addition Sassi.  She will show you how much she loves reading in this blog post. :):)  She is a sweetheart but nothing like our friend Hotshot.  She is fearless and we call her "Little Tornado."

I would like to share a book today called, " Ballet Kitty Christmas Recital," by

Bernette Ford and Sam Williams.

This is the book Sassi liked. :)

The book is about a kitty called Ballet Kitty and her friend Pussycat.  They are looking forward to the Christmas recital at Mademoiselle Felicity's Ballet School.  They can choose their own parts, but the problem is that both of them want to be the Sugar Plum Fairy in the Nutcracker.  Mademoiselle Felicity only needs one Sugar Plum Fairy and how will they decide which one will get the part.  I love the way that Ballet Kitty and Pussycat solve their problem.  It is a heartwarming story and the little dancers learn that their friendship is more important to them than anything else.

I believe all girls will love this story and if they love kittens it will be even better.

Please share this book with a child and maybe even a kitten or cat would enjoy hearing it read to them.  It is a good way for children to read to share a book with an animal friend.

Hello Everyone!

How is everyone?  I am sorry to not be here for a month now but had some health issues and still working on a couple of them but hope to be here to share with you every week.  I miss writing on my blog and sharing some great books with you.

I hope all the children are settling into school now and loving it.  I also hope they are reading at home.  It is very important for young children and even older children to read as much as they can.  Reading is such an important skill we need all our lives and instilling into a child "the love of reading" is something that is so important.  So please find some books your child will enjoy and do some reading.  Children love to read in different places.  So let them choose a spot like on the floor with a pillow, on the bed, on the front porch, on a blanket on the grass, or in a treehouse.  So many places to try.  They also love to read in a tent or to an animal.  So check it out parents and grandparents and read with a child this week.

Hello My Friends

How is everyone and how did your week go?  Has your child or grandchild started school yet?  They are on their second week here where I live. I love this time of year and even football started tonight.  I love fall and I welcome the thought that it will be here soon.

I have another cute book to share about school starting today.  I loved this book and  it was a new find for me. Young children will enjoy this book and it is so cute.  I hope you will share it with your child or grandchild this week.   Children love to hear their parents or grandparents read to them.  So share a good book with them this weekend. :)

The Most Unbelievable First Day of School

This is a cute story about a family of bears getting ready for the first day of school.  The main character is Herbie, a skateboarding, peanut-butter loving, adventurous young bear.

In the beginning it is the first day of school and Herbie doesn't want to get up for school until his brother Hank comes in to tell him that Mom is making peanut-butter pancakes.  So Herbie gets up and puts on his favorite clothes and goes to eat breakfast.  Dad is a math teacher and sports coach who encourages the children to enjoy their first day of school and learn all they can.  Herbie has a vivid imagination that he enjoys using on that first day of school.  He meets his friends, Michael and Kim at the bus stop and everyone is excited about the big day.  Herbie has a bandage on his arm from where he hit the table but his imagination takes him on a ride on a skateboard  with his friend Michael and some bees. :)   On the bus Kim and Michael ask Herbie what he brought for lunch and Herbie looks in his backpack and discovers that he forgot his lunch which starts another imagined adventure on how to get his lunch.  So when the children arrive at school there is a big commotion going on at school.  What will Herbie, the teachers, and the kids find out about all the school pets?  How does Herbie become the hero of his class?  Please read this cute book to find out the exciting ending.

 How is everyone today?  Has your child went back to school yet?  If not I bet they will soon.

Most of the schools in my area either went back to school last week or will this week.

I love this time of year and when I was teaching I loved getting my classroom ready for my students.

It is a wonderful time for teachers and students.

I have found some cute Back-to-School books that parents or grandparents can share with their child or children to help them get back in the mood for school.

The one I am going to share today is a cute book and there are three other books about Betsy going back to school.  So check them out too especially if you have a child in the first, second, and fourth grades.

Hello Friends!!!!

How are all of you?  I have been busy with some things and I haven't been able to write on my blog for a few weeks.  I hope to be back now because my favorite time of the year is coming, FALL!!!!! Is everyone ready for fall like me?

School started today where I live so fall is just around the corner.  I miss getting my room ready and meeting my new students at the beginning of the new school year.  I loved teaching and everyone of my students were very special to me.  So I wish all the parents and especially the children a great year when your school starts.  I hope your children will love their teacher and love reading.  Both of those are very important.  I loved shopping for new school supplies every year for my children and my students.  I still buy a few. :) 

I thought I would share a great Back to School book that you might want to share with a young child going off to Kindergarten to 4th Grade.  I am sure they would enjoy this  cute book about Arthur and DW's  first day of school.

Arthur's Back-To-School Surprise

Who doesn't love Arthur and his family and friends?  I love the Arthur books.  I would suggest checking them out for your child.  Arthur and Dw are out school shopping with their mom for the first day of school.  They go to the store and buy a  binder, crayons,pencils, pens, etc. for school.  Mom tells them to pick out a backpack and they have a problem because they both want a Bionic Bunny backpack.  They end up buying one for Arthur and DW too since she won't pick another one.  After that they get some new shoes and clothes and head home.  Arthur fills his new backpack with his school  supplies and DW  fills her backpack with Mary Moo-Cow!!!  The next morning they eat breakfast and mom says time to go and they both pick up their backpacks and head to the car.  Something happens at school with the backpacks which turns out to be a surprise for Arthur.

 Check out this cute Back to School book and share it with your children before school starts for them.

How is everyone this warm July day?  I went to church and enjoyed the sermon and the singing.  This afternoon I thought I would write a little here on my blog. How is your reading coming this summer?  Are your children reading any good books?  I sure hope so.  I know that school starts here August 12.  So summer is drawing to a close for the children. So I hope you will take these last few weeks to enjoy your time of freedom with your children and grandchildren. I have been enjoying some good books and I have read some cute books for young girls who love tutus and ballet.

This is a really cute book about a girl named Pinkalicious.  As you can probably tell she loves the color pink.  Pinkalicious is going to take a ballet class with her best friend, Alison.

She can't wait because she gets to wear a pink tutu and pink ballet slippers. Things do take a turn though when there is a mix-up at the Ballet School and Pinkalicious  ends up in a big kid's ballet class.  What happens to Pinkalicious in the class and what about Alison?  Join Pinkalicious in this I can read dance adventure.

Please share this cute book with your child or grandchild and maybe she would love a pink tutu or a Peacock tutu to dance around in or go to ballet class this fall.

How is everyone doing? Are you enjoying your summer and keeping cool?  Did everyone enjoy their 4th of July holiday?  I  did. It is one of my favorite holidays and I love the fireworks and pool parties!!!   

I hope you and your children are reading some good books this summer.  I have read some good ones and I want to share a few with you.

I am reading a Janette Oke book right now.  Is anyone watching the Hallmark series When Calls the Heart?  I love it and I have read all of the When Calls the Heart books by Janette Oke.  The book I am reading now is by Janette and her daughter. It is called Where Trust Lies.  It is a continuation of the Canadian West series by Janette Oke.  I am sure you would enjoy it.

Now, for the young girls.  Who doesn't love a tutu? I have read three good books about tutus. The first one is called, "Tallulah's Tutu

It is a really cute book about a little girl named Tallulah.  Tallulah just knows she could be a great ballerina if she only had a tutu.  So she starts ballet class and waits for her tutu.  But she does not get a tutu!  She wonders, "Is it still somewhere in France?"

She keeps going to ballerina class but still no tutu.  Tallulah wonders if she will ever get her tutu. She also begins to wonder if ballet is about more than what you wear.  

Read Tallulah's Tutu and find out if Tallulah gets her tutu and does she become a great ballerina. 

Also, if you have a little girl who loves ballet or just tutus please check out this Etsy store where my daughter makes made to order tutus.  She does an excellent job and have made quite a few for several young girls.  She is working on a birthday set and princess set right now.

Hello Everyone!!!

How is your summer going?  Have you been reading any good books so far this summer?  Did you enroll your child or grandchild in a Summer Reading Program at your local library?  I sure hope so.  As a retired  teacher I know that children reading in the summer helps them be better readers and students in the next school year.

I have been reading a Debbie Macomber book and a book called This is Your Do Over by  Michael F. Roizen, M.D.  It is a great book about changing your health at any age to live longer and to be healthier.  My daughter and I are working on his principles and doing our DO-OVER!  One thing is to walk 10,000 steps a day.  So we got pedometers and we are working on getting to our 10,000 steps a day.  It is a really good book and I would recommend it if you are interested in being healthy and living longer.

Summer Wonders

This is a really cute rhyming book for young children all about summer wonders.  It has great illustrations and children will love how it rhymes and the cute pictures.

Which are you?  Divers, swimmers, or flat rock skimmers?

or Joggers, walkers, or sidewalk chalkers?

I thought it was a great book for young children all about things people do in the summer. I am a reader, swinger, and a melon eater.  At the end of the book is a recipe for making Mini Ice Pops.  Who doesn't love those on a hot summer day.

Enjoy the book and an ice pop out under a big shade tree out on a palette.

Howdy Friends!!

How is everyone today?  It is another rainy cool day in my "neck of the woods." :) Also, just one day left for school here.  SO the children will be ready to enjoy their summer vacations.  Parents and grandparents are you ready??? I hope it will be a great summer for everyone.  Just remember to sign your child or grandchild up for a Summer Reading Program. It will be a fun time for them.

Hello My Friends!

I am sorry I haven't posted in awhile but have had some health issues and so has my daughter.  I do want to get back to doing this though because I enjoy it and I hope you do too.  How is your spring going?  I know school will be out here next week.  So summer break is just around the corner for the children.  I would like to encourage you as parents and grandparents to have your child start a reading program for the summer.  It is so important for young readers especially to keep reading in the summer so they will continue with their reading skills for when school starts again.  They have great programs at the library with exciting incentives for children who read during the summer. As a retired teacher I know how important it is to keep up those reading skills during the summer.  So go to your local library and see what the reading program is and sign up your child.  It will be a rewarding experience for the child.  Reading is so important for children to succeed in school and life.  So please check out the reading programs at the library and also sign up your child for some tutoring if they are having trouble with reading.

It will be worthwhile.  I hope you and your children have a great last week or few weeks of school.

Recently, when I was at the library I picked up four books to read and check out.  I did enjoy them and I think young children who like teddy bears will enjoy them too.  The author is Greg Foley and his first book Thank You Bear win the Charlotte Zolotow Award.

Thank You Bear is a story about true friendship.   A little Bear  gets a little box one morning and  he shows the box to all his friends but only one friend thought the box was great.  The children will enjoy this story and giving them a box to play with and share might be fun too.  SO check out this book and I will review another book about the little Bear this week. So I would suggest that you get all four and read them with your child.

This is a great Alphabet Book about baseball. It starts of course with A is for Ace and goes to Z for Strike Zone. It has great pictures and gives a good overview of baseball. So check out this great Alphabet book about baseball at your neighborhood library.  Young children will love it and the great illustrations.

This book celebrates baseball in pictures, it's history,the heroes, the gear, and the games.  It is a great book to share with a child all the way to adult if they love baseball. I learned many things that I did not know about the game of baseball.  So check it out at your public library.

How is everyone doing?  I am sorry I missed a few days to write something but have had some health issues.  I hope each of you are doing well and enjoying the spring weather.  Today is a beautiful day here where I live.  It is 70 degrees and sunny. The weatherman called it a picture perfect day. I would agree.

Last week, I started to review some baseball books since baseball season has started.  I know how much children love playing baseball and going to a ballgame.  I know I love it and it has been awhile since I was a child.

I think boys especially will enjoy these two books today.  What boy doesn't love pitching a ball and hitting a ball?  I hope you will share both of these books with a boy in your family.

The Lucky Baseball Bat

Martin has just moved to town and joined the Tigers baseball team.  He got off on the wrong foot so to speak when he joined a game without being asked so he wants to prove himself to the team. An older boy named Barry gives him an old glove and a bat.  Martin believes he will get plenty of hits with this "lucky" bat.

Just as things are improving and Martin is enjoying the game he loses the "lucky" bat.  He also loses his confidence without the "lucky" bat.  Will Martin find the bat and his confidence so that he can help his team win the championship?  

Please check out this book and find out the answer about Martin and the Tigers.  This a a good book by sports writer Matt Christopher who has written more than 30 sport books for kids. This a chapter book so would be good for boys in 2nd thru 4th grade .

Batter Up

This is a good book about a boy who loves baseball.  Caleb loves hitting the balls off his his wooden bat called "Slugger."

Caleb has always used his wooden bat when he plays ball but this year his new coach wants him to use an aluminum bat.  Finally, Caleb convinces his new coach that he hits the ball better with "Slugger",  Things are going great until the other team accuses Caleb of tampering with "Slugger."

So Caleb is forced to use the aluminum bat now when he plays and he is striking out all the time with it.  What is Caleb to do now?  He can't help his team to win if he keeps striking out.

Check out this chapter book that is a great story for young boys.  

So I have shared two great baseball books for young boys who love the game of baseball.  I hope you will share both of them with a young boy in your life.

Did you know baseball fans that this song is sung  at every Major League baseball game at the top and bottom of the seventh inning.

Who hasn't sung this song at a ballgame. What child hasn't played baseball in their yard, their school yard, or on a little league team.  Girls and boys love to play.  Then, of course most adults love to watch baseball games.  Whether it be their children, or grandchildren playing or going to the big stadium to see their favorite Major League Team.  Of course my favorite is the Kansas City Royals who are starting out another great season.

So this week and next I will be sharing baseball books and ideas for what is called the National Pastime.

This a book about baseball that a Level One Reader could read on their own. It has real life pictures of a young boy and his teammates and coach.  Young baseball fans would enjoy this book about baseball.

 So get out your bat and ball and play a game of baseball with your kids or neighborhood kids.  My brother and I played with our friends in our yard in the spring and summer every night  after school and homework.  We had great nights of fun and lots of exercise but be careful of the windows on the houses.  I think we broke a couple at our house but our parents were always  great about it.  So get into the baseball spirit and if you have a big league team close by go at least once and take a child with you.  They will never forget it.

I want to continue my April in Paris with another animal going to Paris.  This time it is a bird named Emma.  It is a really cute book with lovely real life pictures of Paris sites.

Emma, a New York sparrow has traveled to Paris to meet her cousin Amelie and is befriended by a cat.

Emma already knows a few french words such as bonjour, merci , and au revoir. Emma asks people and animals how to get to her cousin's house. Emma buys a French-English Dictionary so she can correspond with the French people and animals . Emma finds some money that a little white cat drops and gives it to the cat who invites Emma to lunch.  Emma and Edouard becomes friends and Emma tells Edouard about her travels and about New York CIty where she is from.  That evening Edouard takes Emma to the train station so she can get to her cousin's house.  Emmas finds Amelie's house and greets her cousin who is very glad to see her. Amelie turns out to be a circus performer and she asks Emma to join the circus with her.

Will Emma join the circus with Amelie or will she go back home to New York City?  CHeck it out at your local library.  It is a really cute book with great pictures of Paris.

Happy Wednesday!!

 I hope everyone is having a wonderful day.  It is storming here in my neck of the woods.  WE had large hail this morning and possibility of tornadoes this afternoon.  I know spring is here for sure.  I hope you are having better weather than that where you are in this big world.  I enjoy reading on rainy days so I have done some reading this morning.  I have a delightful book to share today with you as we carry on our theme April in Paris.  This book is about a cute little dog named Minnie who lives in Paris, France.  This book is also written by a famous author of adult fiction, Danielle Steel. So let's take a look at it.

Minnie is a white, long-haired, teacup-size Chihuahua.

Minnie loves to wear shoes and she lives in Paris with her owner, Francoise.  They live near the Arc  de Triomphe in Paris, France.  Francoise takes Minnie everywhere with her except to school.  They go to the Eiffel Tower, Bistro, and riding in the Jardin du Luxembourg.  Francoise loves pretty clothes especially pink and purple things that sparkle. Francoise's mother designs beautiful clothes.  Francoise and Minnie love to visit  the workrooms where hats and dresses, evening gowns, and fancy shoes are made.  Minnie and Francoise love the fashion shows best of all.   But the first time Minnie went to a fashion show there was so much noise and excitement Minnie got scared and she ran backstage and got lost from Francoise.  Francoise was so worried about Minnie but she couldn't leave her seat.

Check out this wonderful book and see what happens to Minnie after she gets lost at the fashion show.  Young girls will love this book about a young girl and her little dog in wonderful Paris.

Happy Monday My Friends!!

How is everyone?  How was your Easter and spring break? We had nice weather in my part of the world and I am always thankful for our Risen Lord.  Now, it is time for the children to go back to school for the last of the school year.  When I was teaching school this was always a busy time and the end of the year testing so children need some breaks from that.  Some good reading and fun activities are just what they need. 

Guess what my friends? Baseball season starts today.  I love baseball and my favorite team is the Kansas City Royals the American League Champions. So I am thinking this month I will review some baseball books for the boys and girls.  I imagine many of your children and grandchildren will be playing baseball too. So I hope you will  enjoy this baseball season. :)

This week I said I was going to write about some animals who go to Paris.  April in Paris sounds wonderful to me.  I have  someone very special to me who lived most of his life in Paris.  We have talked a lot about it.  I hope to go one day. 

The book I want to review today is of course about a cat.  Hotshot would love to go to Paris too.  Let's take a look at Paris Cat.

Alice, the cat is on her first day of her first trip to Paris, France. Alice spots a mouse in Great-Aunt Isabella's garden and the chase starts. Alice runs up and down one street chasing the mouse.  The mouse gets away and Alice is lost in the streets of Paris. Alice ends up in the city market and smells all kinds  of good things to eat.  Then Alice looks and see DOGS.  All kinds of dogs!!!!! Alice decides she had better find Annie if she can get by all the dogs. Oh no!! A terrier catches sight of Alice and starts chasing her all over the streets of Paris.  Alice tried to get away by going into the Louvre with a crowd of people. Then a guard sees Alice and yells, "No cats allowed."   Then Alice runs onto a bridge  and a dog scares her and she falls into the Seine River. Alice lands safely onto a boat going down the Seine. Alice gets off the boat when it docks but she doesn't know where to go.  Where is Annie?

Will Alice find Annie?  What will happen?
