Happy Monday Everyone!

I just came back from the library and I didn't get any of my Halloween books so I thought today I would share a couple of cat books.  Cats are associated with Halloween.  Well at least black cats.  I don't have a black cat but I do have a beautiful black and white cat.  He loves the sun and stretching out in front of the sliding glass door.  We really do enjoy having him as part of our family.  So if your are a cat lover this is a post for you.  Happy Reading!!!

If Cats Could Talk
by
Michael P. Fertig

This book has the cutest pictures of cats and the author has written captions for every picture in the book.  He calls it the Meaning of Meow.  It really is a cute book about cats and how funny and adorable they can be.  Check it out at your favorite bookstore.  You will enjoy it.

A Taste of Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul
by
Jack Canfield and Victor Hansen

This is another one of the Chicken Soup for the Soul books.  This one has wonderful stories about cats.  Some of them are really amazing stories of cats and how they do help us humans.
There is the story about Lazer the seal point Siamese cat who becomes a Pet Partner with his owner and they go to children's hospitals and to nursing homes and even work with Hospice.  I love Siamese cats.  I have had two of them and my mother had two.   Also, a story about Ringo, the red tabby who saves the lives of his owners warning them of a gas leak in their home.  My favorite story in the book though was Elvis Has Left the Building.  It is a wonderful story of the love of a woman and her cat Elvis.  I could share all the stories but you need to read them.  I know you will enjoy everyone of them.  I love these books.  Check one out at your bookstore soon.

Here is our cat.  He likes to see what I am typing.  He even watches the screen sometimes.  Enjoy your cat today and everyday.  I am sure they are a member of your family just like Hotshot is in our family.

Hello Friends

Just a week before the big day for all children.  The night when children dress up like their favorite characters.  I have a cute book today that young children will enjoy and those who have started reading should be able to read it on their own.  At the end of the book is a Halloween activity that children can do while they are waiting for the big day.  Hope you enjoy sharing it with your child or grandchild before Halloween.

Max & Mo's
Halloween Surprise
by
Patricia Lakin

The students in Max and Mo's classroom are getting ready for Halloween by making masks.  Max and Mo are two cute hamsters who live in the classroom in a hamster cage. After the children go home from school Max and Mo are bored so they decide to jump out of the cage and make some masks too.  Mo has been making chains from the newspaper in their cage so they pile the chains together and climb out of the cage.  They see the masks that the children have made and they want to make some too.  They find the masks in a book and then look for the materials.  They read in the book that they need crayons, scissors, paintbrushes and paint and a white piece of cloth.  They work hard on the Halloween project and end up with a mask and a costume.  Check out the book to find out what Max and Mo make for their Halloween.

It is a really cute book and at the end it tells the child how to make a Mask from a paper plate.  You will just need a paper plate, crayons, tape, scissors, and a piece of paper.  They are very simple and cute.  If I had some paper plates I would make one to show.  Check out the book before Halloween.  See you  and enjoy reading.

Happy Halloween
by
Rosemary Wells

It's Halloween and Max is determined to scare Ruby but no matter how hard he tries, nothing seems to do the trick.  He tried fangs, rubber-spiders, rubber worms, or jumping out of a closet and saying BOO. None of those scared Ruby.  Read Happy Halloween to find out who gets scared.  It is a cute book for young children.  Check it out at the nearest bookstore or Wal-Mart.

Also, check out Ruby and Max on tv at Nick Jr.

Happy Wednesday friends!!!

BOoooooooo!  It is getting closer to Halloween so I decided to share one Halloween book  with you.  I will try and post a list of great ones to read before Halloween to your little goblin.  Today's choice is:

Hailey's Halloween
by
Lisa Bullard

This is a neat book about Hailey's favorite holiday.  I bet you can guess.  It is Halloween!  Hailey is trying to learn more about Halloween and find a costume to wear on Hallow's Eve.  Hailey tells us about the first Halloween  which was during the time of the Celts.  They called Halloween Samhain.  The Celts thought Spirits visited Earth on Samhain.  Then on November 1 about 1,200 years ago some people called it All Hallow's Day.  The night before became All Hallow's Eve.  Later, the name changed to Halloween.  Halloween came to America about 400 years ago and now we celebrate Halloween in America too.  Haley keeps trying to find a costume all through the book along with telling us facts.  What costume does Hailey wear?  Read Haley's Halloween to find out.  It is a really cute book filled with facts about Halloween.  The author at the end of the book gives a recipe to make face paint if you don't like masks. She also lists two good websites for great Halloween fun.  Www.enchanted learning.com/crafts/Halloween/  and kids.nationalgeographic.com.  Also, www.lernersource.com.

Happy Monday Friends!

It was a great weekend for football, great weather, good teams, and records broken.  The Chiefs and the Tigers both won their football games.  The Chief's fans put the Chief's stadium in the Guinness Book of World Records by making enough noise to make it the loudest and noisiest stadium in the World.  Go Chief's fans!!!!! I could almost hear them at my house !

I am still a little under the weather so I haven't had a chance to get my books for this week.  I hope to go tomorrow and pick them up so I can post on Wednesday.  Today I am just going to remind you of a great book and video to share with your kids.  I don't know anyone that doesn't love, It's  The  Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.  Check it out at the library and I am sure the video will be on tv soon or they may have one at your local library.

Swiss Family Robinson
by
Johann Wyss

Shipwrecked and deserted by the crew of the ship they are traveling on, the Robinson family members find that they must learn to fend for themselves.  Upon reaching land, they learn that the island on which they are stranded has giant fig trees, wild animals and hidden caves.  The family sets up a home in the trees (ie a huge tree house) They have many exciting adventures living off the land.
Have you seen the movie Swiss Family Robinson?  I love the book and the movie.  Children would love hearing the story and all the excitement that the family has living on the island.  Then after reading the book you could let them watch the movie so that the book really comes to life.  A great classic book that boys and girls both would enjoy.  I will preview a classic every chance I get.  I believe our children need to read the classics.

Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, and Stephanie Marston

This is a shortened version of the bigger Chicken Soup for the SOul books.  I love these books.  I have in my personal library at least 10 of them.  I read my Christmas one every December.  They have great true stories to inspire and help us through the daily life we lead. This book is only 86 pages but filled with several great true stories.  Pick up one of the books  to enjoy during the fall .  You will be inspired and uplifted.  I love these books. Check them out at your library or bookstore.  They also make great gifts.

Happy Friday my friends!  Today I am going to share about the Cookie Books.  Has anyone out there read the Cookie Books?  They are really fantastic.  So make some sugar cookies or any kind of cookie and share the cookie books with a child and eat some cookies.  Everyone will enjoy the Cookie Books.

Sugar Cookies
Sweet Little Lessons on Love
by
Amy Krouse Rosenthal

This is my favorite book of the Cookie books.  This one is all about love.  I love how the author defines words that are associated with love.  So what does selfless mean ( letting your friend have the last cookie.)?
What does adore mean?(I think you are simply delicious.)    The book also has great illustrations to go with each word of love.  It is a great book and children will learn words I am sure they probably don't know.  So make those Sugar Cookies and enjoy them with your child or children .  It will be worth it. :)

One Smart Cookie
Bite Size Lessons for the School Years and Beyond
by
Amy Krouse Rosenthal

This book has new words defined that you might say to a child, the first day of pre-school or the last day of high school.  The first word in the book is Prompt and according to the author it means when its time to make cookies, we are here and ready on the dot!   Empathy means knowing how I feel.  There are some great words in the book, ones that everyone should know and use in life.  Inspire means seeing what you have done fills me with energy, new thoughts and the desire to try to see what I can do.  I really did love this book and everyone should know these words as we are growing up in school and beyond.  Check it out when you get a chance.  I am sure you will enjoy it and maybe just not children should read it.

Hope everyone enjoys the Cookie books.  I would suggest making some cookies and sharing them when you read the books or make them with your child.  Also, the Smart Cookie book has a recipe for a Smart Cookie.  I would make them for my children and tell them how smart they will be when they eat the Smart cookies.  A good time to have those are during testing time or when your child needs to know they can do something in school.  Always having a Smart cookie is good.
Have a great weekend everyone and please post a comment on my blog.  I would love to hear from you.

The Fairest of the Fall
by
Melissa Lagonegro

Ariel and Flounder are out exploring the sea when they see a bright orange ball floating near the surface of the water.  They don't know what the orange ball is so they take it to Scuttle to see what the orange ball is. Scuttle says it looks like a jack-o-witchy from the human's celebration. Ariel wanted to see the celebration so she swam closer. Ariel thought it looked like so much fun.  Ariel wanted to go to the celebration so Flounder went to Sebastian to ask him to help Ariel. So Sebastian decides they should have a spectacular fall fishy festival for the entire kingdom.  The Under the Sea Fall Fishy Festival was a huge success and Ariel was very happy.

The second story in the book is about Sleeping Beauty. Briar Rose was out exploring in the forest on a fall day with her friends. She follows a fox to his den and then realizes she has lost her three aunts somewhere in the forest.  First, she finds a pile of orange leaves, a gray squirrel , and some bluebirds, but not her three aunts.  Briar Rose decides to sing a song along with the bluebirds so that maybe her aunts would find her.  The aunts did find Briar Rose and they shared their adventures in the colorful fall forest.

If you have a sweet daughter or granddaughter in K-3 grades they will love this book about fall and two beautiful princesses, Ariel and Sleeping Beauty.  Check it out at the library or bookstore.  Happy Reading!!!

I have put pictures of several other Princess books that would be appropriate for October and Halloween.  I am sure your little princess would enjoy them.

This book is a nonfiction book about fall.  The authors give great information and there are beautiful pictures  on every other page of the book.  They talk about the seasons of the year.  Also, the leaves changing colors, and about the harvest in the fall.  Also, about the fruits and vegetables you can find in the fall such as apples and pumpkins. Also, about the animals getting ready for winter in the fall.  It is a great book for information about fall that children would understand, The authors share a website for children to find more information. www.childsworld.com/links.

Happy Fall

Today started one of my favorite months.  I love October, November, and December.  The special holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming up.  I love both of them and I love October because the leaves change and it is the beautiful fall time of the year.  I saw three Fall Festivals happening around where I live just this coming weekend.  I have even been thinking of Christmas gifts and that I think I want to make some of mine this year so I had better get started.

My daughter was sick yesterday so had to take her to the doctor so I am doing Monday's post today.  I am going to review two of Zoe Hall's books which would be for K-2.  My students loved them and I think she is a really superb writer.  Check them out at your nearest library or bookstore.  Enjoy the fall weather and the beautiful trees.

Fall Leaves Fall
by
Zoe Hall

What is the best part of fall?  The two children in this book have decided it is the Fall Leaves.  Red leaves, yellow leaves, brown leaves, orange leaves, and even green are so beautiful the children think.  They wait all year long for their favorite season to come which is fall.  The kids know that it is fall when the leaves change color.  They try to catch them, they stomp on them, they kick them, they collect them, they rake them up, and they jump in them.  They love the fall leaves so much.   They collect the leaves and make pictures with their leaves.  Then when the leaves are gone they wait for fall to come again.

This is a really cute book and young children will enjoy the story and the pictures of the kids  and all the leaves.

It's Pumpkin Time!
by
Zoe Hall

This book is also about a brother and sister and guess what their favorite time of the year is?  Of course it is fall and Halloween.  In this book the children  plant some pumpkin seeds so they can have a pumpkin patch and then harvest the pumpkins  to make jack-o-lanterns.  The book shows the children planting the seeds, watching them grow, and then harvesting the pumpkins when they are ready.  It really shows how to grow a pumpkin and the stages of its growth.  Then they  draw faces on the pumpkins and with mom and dad's help they make jack-o-lanterns for Halloween.  At the end they put on costumes and go trick-or treating.  It is a really cute book and the kids love it.  A good book to read before going to a pumpkin patch or carving a pumpkin.  Check it out and check out other Zoe Hall books at your library.
