Happy Saturday Friends!!

I hope everyone's weekend is going well and it is warmer where you are.  The sun is shining here and we are enjoying such a beautiful day.  Today I want to share a really good book especially if you are  welcoming a second or third child into your family.  This book is perfect for showing how you still love the oldest child or grandchild.  Have you ever read the The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn?  It is a wonderful book and I hope each of you have read it to a child in your life.  I hope if you haven't that you will read it and A Pocket Full of Kisses too.  I hope you enjoy both books and share them with a child you love.

A Pocket Full of Kisses
by
Audrey Penn

In this story Chester Raccoon has a new baby brother.  The baby brother plays with all of Chester's things and even swings in his swing.  He asks his mother, "If I am very good could we please give him back?"  His mother says ."No Chester we can't.  Mrs.  Raccoon is very smart though and opens Chester's hand and spreads his fingers out and kisses the palm of his hand and Chester is so happy but the he sees his mother do the same thing to Ronny's hand.  Chester starts to cry because he thinks his mother is giving away his Kissing Hand.  Mrs. Raccoon being very smart tells Chester about the sun and the stars and how the sun everyday gives off light to the stars so they will shine at night.  She tells Chester that the sun never stops giving off the light and the stars never stop shining.  Then she gives Chester another Kissing Hand and tells him to put it in his pocket and save it because big brothers might need an extra kissing hand.
What a wonderful story and you could do the same thing with your child or grandchild.  What a wonderful tradition and way to show them how much you love each of them.  I sure hope you will share this book and the Kissing Hand with a child this week.  Hope each of you have a wonderful weekend.  I hope to see you again on Monday.  Please let me know what you think and what you would like to see on this blog.  I welcome your thoughts and ideas.

Charlie, the Ranch Dog
by
Ree Drummond

Charlie is a ranch dog on a big cattle ranch in Oklahoma.  Breakfast is his life especially if it consists of bacon.  Charlie has dangly ears, floppy skin, and big, fat paws.  He lives in the country with the Drummond family and his friend Suzie which is another dog on the ranch.   Charlie does all kind of things on the ranch fixing fences, gardening, and helping his family out on the ranch.

Come check out the adventures of Charlie and Suzie on the ranch as they help their family out.  Find out why Charlie always seems to miss things that are happening on the ranch. :)
Find out what happens one day with Charlie and the cows in the garden.  There are great illustrations by Diane deGroat.
So go to your local library to check out this fun book about Charlie and life on the Drummond Ranch.

Also check out Amazon to hear Ree Drummond  read some of the book.

Happy Monday Everyone!

Can you believe it?  The first day of spring was on last Thursday and now today where I am it is snowing.  I can't believe it where is spring?  I can't wait till Mother Nature decides it is spring too.  I hope it is more like spring where you live today.  I am going to share a book today that has to do with a garden.  I am hoping to start an herb garden here soon.  I want to use fresh herbs in my cooking.  So this book made me think of gardens.
Hope you enjoy it with a child.

The Talking Vegetables
by
Won-Ldy Paye and Margaret H. Lippert

The villagers are planting a community garden, but spider refuses to help with the garden.  Spider says he has plenty of rice to eat so why should he help with the vegetables. So each time the villagers ask for his help he says no.

Then one day spider gets tired of plain rice so he decides to go to the garden and pick some vegetables.  Imagine his surprise when he tries picking the vegetable and they start talking to him.  Check out this fun book and see what the vegetables say to spider and what happens when he tries to pick them.   Check it out at your nearest library or bookstore.
It is a really cute book and has a good lesson in the story to for children to understand. Hope you enjoy it.

I added two other books you might want to check out by the same two authors as The Talking Vegetables.  Check them out at the library too.  See you Wednesday.  In April I am going to do an April in Paris theme.  Hope you will join me then.

Sixteen Miles to Spring
by
Andrew Pelletier

It is a cold dreary March day and Maddy knows something is about to happen.  Soon she and her dad come across Wilbur and Wiley in their truck named Janey.  They are traveling north, driving just 16 miles a day.  Maddy and her dad meet them on the side of the road. They have stopped to do something awesome.  A big wind comes up and it starts raining.  "Right on time," Wiley says to Maddy and her dad.  Then Maddy and her dad help the strangers scoop up straw, dirt, seeds, and colors of all kinds, and fling the stuff into the blustery air.  Then the sun comes out and the world changes.

Check out this lovely book with great illustrations and a great story about spring.  Children will love this story and I must admit I really liked it too.    Enjoy the first day spring this week with a really cool book.

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

I just finished making Shamrock cards for some friends.  They turned out really cool and it would be a great project for children.  I used cardstock but you could use construction paper.  I just drew a shamrock for a pattern and then drew it with a pencil on the folded card.  Then I took some green paint and dipped a pencil eraser in the paint and dabbed it all over the shamrock.  Then I took some green glitter and sprinkled it all over the paint.  They turned out really cute and tomorrow after they have dried I will write a nice message to my friends.  Children could make some for grandparents and teachers.  All kids like paint and glitter even me. :):)
Hope you have a great time making Shamrock cards for  St. Patrick's Day. :)

See you Friday!!!!!

Fairytales can come true, it could happen to you, if your young at heart.

Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you
If you're young at heart
For it's hard, you will find, to be narrow of mind
If you're young at heart
You can go to extremes with impossible schemes
You can laugh when your dreams fall apart at the seams
And life gets more exciting with each passing day
And love is either in your heart or on it's way
Don't you know that it's worth every treasure on earth
To be young at heart
And if you should survive to 105
Look at all you'll derive out of being alive
Then here is the best part, you have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart
And if you should survive to 105
Look at all you'll derive out of being alive
Then here is the best part, you have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart
By Frank Sinatra

Share a fairytale with your child or grandchild today.  Who can resist a fairytale?  Children and adults of all ages love them.  My personal favorite was Cinderella and my daughters loved Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Sleeping Beauty.  There are so many great ones out there and even videos you can watch with the kids .  Why not have a fairytale week and read as many as you can and finish it off Friday night with a couple of videos.  Then come back to the blog and share what you did.  We all would love to hear from you.  What is your favorite fairytale and what did you do to share it with your child or grandchild? Fairytales can come true and it can happen to you if you are young at heart.

Happy Friday Friends!

How is everyone this Friday afternoon?  I remember I loved Fridays when I was teaching.  That was the day I actually went home at 4pm.  Every other night it was always a lot later with meetings and planning.  I miss my students but not the late nights and meetings.  I hope each of you have a wonderful weekend and enjoy some warmer weather wherever you might be.
I am going to share the last book in the Canadian West series by Janette Oke today and will start with something new on Monday.

Just when they've made new friends and started a new school, they are presented with a new posting. It seems Elizabeth's dreams for a family and home of her own are not to be. Will their love for each other, hope for the future, and their faith in God carry them through the crushing disappointments?
