Happy Friday Readers!!!!!

It is a beautiful day in the neighborhood today.  The fall trees are so magnificent.  I love seeing them as I drive by the houses and the woods.  I saw one today in a yard that was just beautiful.  It was a burnt red color and a big tree. I am trying to enjoy them everyday because I see that the leaves are falling so not to many days left to enjoy them.   So I hope you and your children are enjoying them too.
Today I would like to share two Halloween books that are for younger children ages 2-6 I would say.  You will have to read the books to them but the children will enjoy both books and the bright illustrations.  So check them out at your library or bookstore.  One of them I purchased at the store for my granddaughter who is 2.  I know she will love it.  I give her books a lot because I know the more she is read to the better reader she will be one day.

Two Little Witches
by
Harriet Ziefert

This s a cute Halloween counting story with two cute witches.  The two little witches are going trick or treating and along the way they meet several other trick or treaters in their costumes.  It has a cute ending with the two little witches all alone.
As a  bonus there are 40 stickers in this book.  I know children love stickers. :) Also, children could use the stickers to make their own Halloween story.  This might be one to buy. :)

Halloween Alphabet
by
Beverly Barras Vidrine

This book goes through the alphabet using Halloween items for each letter of the alphabet.  This book might be better for children 5 to 8.  This is a good book to help children learn the letters of the alphabet .  It does have great illustrations for each letter of the alphabet.

I hope you will enjoy reading both books to a young child this weekend.
HAPPY READING!!!!

Hello Everyone!!!
It is a beautiful day in the neighborhood and a great day for baseball.  I have been a Kansas City Royals fan for many years and tonight is the first game of the World Series in Kansas City.  It will be a great day for the game.
I have another cute Halloween book for the young children especially those that are fans of Dora the Explorer.  I know many kids love her as much as my granddaughter does.  So here is a cute Halloween book to share with them.

Halloween Hoedown
by
Molly Reisner

Dora and her friend Boots were getting ready to  celebrate Halloween at the their friend Benny's Halloween Dance.
Dora was dressed as a tiger and Boots as a clown.  They were very excited about the party.  Boots was juggling the parts of his costume when a jack-o-lantern rolled out from the bushes.  It was Swiper the fox.  Swiper grabbed Boots' costume and tossed it far away.  Swiper left and Boots was very upset because he wanted to wear his costume to the party.  They were trying to decide who to ask for help and they remembered Map.  Map jumped out of Dora's costume wearing a pirate costume.  Map told Dora and Boots where to look for his costume so they headed to the Haunted Garden to find Boot's hat.   Then they headed to the Spooky Forest to find Boot's red nose, and then to Benny's Halloween Hoedown to find Boot's clown shoes. When they found all of Boot's costume they were ready for the party.  They had a fun time.
It is a really cute book and Dora's fans will love it.  So check it out at your nearest library or bookstore. :):)

See you Thursday with another great children's Halloween book.  Happy Reading!!!!!

Hailey's favorite holiday is Halloween and she is trying to pick her costume to wear Trick or Treating on October 31.  She tells about Halloween and how it started as she goes through the costumes she has to chose from.  It is a really cute story with facts about Halloween put in in little blurbs.  Hailey also gives some ideas for costumes in the book too.   The illustrations are very good. Hello My Friends!!!
Halloween is just around the corner.  I love seeing the young children in their cute Halloween costumes when they come trick or treating.  It is a fun time for them.  I am not into the scary or mean things but just the cute costumes.  My daughter is making a really cute Wonder Woman costume for her niece.  It is absolutely awesome!!  She will be so cute!!! When I was a child growing up my parents always had a fun Halloween Party in their basement and everyone would dress up and we would do fun games and always have delicious treats.  It is a fun fall activity.  We also went on hayrides too and had wiener roasts.  Oh , the fun times we had.
Today I would like to share a Halloween book to get you started on your fun Halloween times.

Halloween
by
Molly Aloian

This book gives many facts about Halloween and how Halloween started with the ancient Celtic holiday called Samhain.  It is very interesting how that holiday evolved into Halloween as we celebrate it today.  The books starts there and gives great facts about the holiday with beautiful colored pictures to illustrate the writing.  It would be a great book to help children understand why we celebrate Halloween today.
So check out this book and share it with a child during this Halloween season.

See you soon with another Halloween book to share.

HAPPY READING!!!!

Happy  Fall Everyone!!!
WOW!! It is a beautiful fall day here in the midwest.  The sun was shining with a cool wind. It was a welcome change from yesterday with a rainy cool day all day.  I love fall!!!! I hope everyone is enjoying beautiful weather where they are today too.
Apples, pumpkins, and cider are some of my favorite things about fall. My favorite thing though I believe is the fall foliage.  The leaves are changing here now and are so beautiful.  God sure knew what He was doing when He created such beauty.
Today I would like to share a book new to me.  It is a nice book about Fall Leaves and has great illustrations.  I hope you will check it out at the library and share it with a child.:):)

Fall Leaves
by
Loretta Holland

This is a great book about fall which explains things about fall very nicely for children.  She starts by explaining about the season of fall and why we have it .  She talks about the leaves, the sun, the birds, and the flowers.    I think what I love about the book the most is the illustrations that are on each page after the written word on one page.  The author explains about all the things associated with fall and goes clear up till it snows.
The children will love the illustrations and the information is given in a kid-friendly manner.
So check out a cool book about fall that everyone will enjoy.

See you again soon with more fall and Halloween books.  Enjoy the beauty of the fall season and Happy Reading!!!

Happy Saturday Readers!!!

It is a lovely cool fall day here in my neck of the woods today.  The sun is shining and it is 54 degrees.  Beautiful weather!!!!  I love these sunny cool, crisp days of October.  I  don't have my fall and Halloween books yet so I thought I would share a book with those of you who are grandparents today.  It is a cute book to share with a grandchild  ages 4 -8.

That's What Grandparents Are For
by
Arlene Uslander

The author is an award-winning journalist and grandparenting advice columnist.  She has written about activities that children and grandparents enjoy together. The rhyming text begins with the child's birth.  It then shares memories of all the activities the grandparents and child did together. They went to the zoo, to the circus, fishing, to the school and many more.  It is a multi-generational book.  It would be a great book to share with a grandchild.  So check it out at your local library or bookstore.

I hope you will enjoy this book with a grandchild soon and plan a fun activity for you to do together.  Enjoy and please share a good book with us on this blog.  We look forward to hearing from you.
I hope each of you have a great weekend.

Happy Wednesday My Friends

It is raining (cats and dogs) as the old saying says here in the midwest today.  It is a good day to find my favorite armchair, a soft blanket, a cup of green tea, and a really good book and spend the afternoon reading.  I might just do that in a bit.  It sounds like a good thing to do.  Hope you will enjoy a good book today wherever you are.  I hope you will share in the comment section what you are reading or what your children or grandchildren are reading. :)
Today I want to start reviewing some fall and Halloween books.  Children love books about Halloween and there are many of them out there.  Check out the library and your favorite bookstore for displays or more ideas for great Halloween books.
I am going to review one today which is a fun book and teaches a good lesson too and it doesn't have to be considered a Halloween book but I always read it to my students at Halloween time.

Miss Nelson is Missing
by
Harry Allard

The kids in ROOM 207 are taking advantage of their teacher's good nature until one day she disappears and they are faced with a substitute. The kids are just terrible until they are faced with their vile new substitute. The kids do not like the substitute, Viola Swamp who looks like a witch and acts like one too.  She gives them all kinds of homework and she never gives them a story hour.
The children do not like Viola Swamp and wish that Miss Nelson would return.  Will Miss Nelson return?  The kids hope everyday that she will.
This book teaches a good lesson, Treat others as you want to be treated,The Golden Rule and how to respect each other.  As a parent and a grandparent this is a great way to teach children about how to treat teachers, parents, etc. with respect.  The author does a great job with this book and children love it.  It is a classic.  There are two other books about Miss Nelson written by Harry Allard.  Also, on youtube there is a reading of the book too.  This is just a great book to share with children.  Check it out when you can and share a teachable moment with your children or grandchildren. :)

See you soon with another great fall or Halloween book.  Enjoy this great book and Happy Reading!!!!

Hello fellow Readers!

How is everyone this sunny Monday?  It is beautiful here today as I write this blog.  It is a sunny fall day and I just put Halloween clings on my front windows and decorated my coffee table for fall with pumpkins and cards from friends.  I love decorating for holidays and not just Christmas. :)  I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather wherever you might be.

Today I have one more Scarecrow book to share about a Scarecrow named Pete. I love this book because it encourages everyone of all ages to be readers and even shares some good books for older children in grades 5- 8.  So I hope you will get it and read it and then share it with a child that needs to be encouraged to read at home and at school.   I hope you have  made a scarecrow with someone over the last few weeks. I think my neighbor might have went overboard with them (probably has 20 or more) in her yard but I do like them.

Scarecrow Pete
by
Mark Kimball Moulton

The first quote of the book is one of my favorites."Why, I can go most anywhere by reading a good book."  This is so true and such a joy to do.
This story starts out with a boy working in the garden and he hears a voice say, "Hello Friend." He looks all around and no one is there.  He wonders if he has been working to hard.  He lays down and rests and enjoys the beautiful summer day and he hears someone say, "Why, yes, it is a perfect   day!"  He jumps a mile and looks all around and still doesn't see anyone.  As the story goes along he continues to hear someone talking and finally figures out it is the scarecrow talking. The boy and Pete begin chatting even though the boy thinks it is strange to be talking to a scarecrow.
Pete tells the boy about the books in the suitcase at his feet and asks him to please read a story out of one of them.  The boys says he doesn't like to read and it is summer so he doesn't have to read but the scarecrow thinks it would be great fun to travel together in the books and stories if they were to read them.  So the boy pulls out a book and he starts reading about a whale in the tale of Moby Dick.  Pete and the boy get caught of in the book and when the boy is done they discuss the story together.  So after that the boy and Pete read the books in the suitcase.  They read many great stories such as Peter Pan, The Little House Books, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mary Poppins, The Secret Garden,The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and Tarzan of the Apes.
The ending of the book is very interesting so check out a copy of Scarecrow Pete at your nearby library and enjoy a great book.
Happy Reading!!!!!!

Enjoy the beautiful weather and read a book outside and don't forget to make a scarecrow.  See you again on Wednesday and please leave a comment when you want.  I would love to hear from each of you.

Happy Wednesday!!!!

How is your week going?   It is a rainy day here where I live.  A great day to get a cup of hot tea and read a good book.  Also, October is here.  So fall weather and fall foliage will be coming.  I think this is my favorite time of the year.  The beautiful leaves and the chilly weather.  It is fall y'all!!!!! So I would like to share another great Scarecrow book with you.

Scarecrow
by
Cynthia Rylant

This is a great story about a scarecrow.  Cynthia Rylant has written over 60 books for young people.  She is a great children's writer.  I have read several of her books to my former students and they loved them.
In this book the author tells the story of a scarecrow and how  everything that makes him a scarecrow is borrowed.  She tells what he is made of and how he stands tall in the fields to watch over the crops.  She also tells about the animals that come to visit him and live in his clothes. The scarecrow's life is all his own. A scarecrow is gentle and usually has kind eyes.
This is a really lovely story about a scarecrow with beautiful illustrations by Lauren Stringer.  It is a great book about a scarecrow that young children will enjoy.  So check it out at your nearby library.
I hope you have a made a scarecrow with your children or grandchildren by now but if not this would be a great book to do that with.  So enjoy and check out the scarecrows in your neighborhood.
Happy Reading!!!!

See you again Friday but until then Happy Reading!!!
