Happy Monday Everyone!!

Hello and I hope everyone had a great weekend.  I was really sorry to hear about the storms in the Midwest and the loss of life.  We had warnings of tornadoes where I live but only got hail and rain.  Tornadoes are so devastating to human life and property.  I am saddened for the families of those who lost their lives.

Well this is the last Monday in April and I have a couple of books left on Paris so I thought I would share them with you today.  I hope you enjoyed sharing them with a child this month and will share these last two with them.  I hope you will enjoy them.  I truly do love books.

Fancy Nancy and the Boy from Paris
by
Jane O'Connor

According to Fancy Nancy Paris, France is the fanciest city in the world.  So when her teacher Mrs. Glass, tells her class that the new student is from Paris, Nancy cannot believe it. Nancy brushes up on all her French words and can't wait to make a new ami(French for friend).  So Nancy sets out to make a friend with the new student from Paris. But Robert would rather talk about horses than the Eiffel Tower.  So Nancy invites Robert over to her house to play and to learn more about Paris.  I don't want to tell you the end so read the book and see how it ends.

This book is for ages 4-8 and a second grader should be able to read it on their own.

Fancy Nancy Too Many Tutus
by
Jane O'Connor

Nancy's mother want Nancy to clean out her closet and get rid of some of her tutus so her closet will shut.  Nancy loves her tutus and doesn't want to get rid of any of them but she finally does get rid of a couple but that is all she does until her teacher Ms. Glass tells all the students about the  fancy swap-and- shop day at school.  Nancy decided to bring in some of her tutus and gets 15 tickets to the swap-and -shop day at school.  But what happens  when Nancy finds the tutu of her dreams?  Check out this cute book.  All little girls love tutus!  My daughter has made some cute ones and you should check them out.  They are as Fancy Nancy would say very fancy.
Hope you enjoy both books and I also put a link to the official Fancy Nancy website.  So check it out too.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

I hope everyone is enjoying a beautiful spring day today.  I went to the lake close by  my house and had some lunch.  It was so nice outside today.  I really did enjoy it.  I can't wait for the boats to be out on the lake.  I like taking a book and a blanket and reading for the afternoon.  I have another book about Paris for today.  I hope everyone is enjoying reading about Paris.  This book would be for 9-12 year olds I would think.  So check out the book and read it with a child.

Recipe for Adventure
by
Giada De Laurentiis

When Zia Donatella comes to live with the Bertolizzi family, little do Alfie and his older sister Emilia know what's in store for them. Zia Dontella is determined to show the kids how a home-cooked meal is better than even the best take-out pizza or burrito. When Zia's plan transports Alfie and Emilia to famous food cities around the world, they learn first-hand how food can not only take you places but can also bring you back home. Alfie and Emilia are taken to Paris, where a case of mistaken identity finds them caught up in  the scenes of drama at a traditional French cooking school.  They explore the beautiful city of light and try to figure out how to get back home, they meet a cast of French characters, as well as sample some of the best pastries and real hot chocolate that Paris has to offer.

You might want to check out all three books especially if your child enjoys cooking.  As they say in France, Bon Appetit!!!!!

Paris
by
R. Conrad Stein

This book is a good book to share with an older child third thru sixth grade I would say.
It shares about Paris and all the things you can see there with great pictures and also gives a history of the city.  It might be a good place to start before reading the other books about Paris. I enjoyed reading it and looking at all the places I want to go in Paris.

Eloise in Paris
by
Kay Thompson

Have you ever seen Eloise at the Plaza?  What a delightful movie.  This book is really cute and Eloise shares many of the sights of Paris and she travels there with Nanny.  Eloise gets a telegram from her mother saying come to Paris.  They arrive in Paris and Eloise takes

you on a tour of Paris and even shares French words and what they mean.  Children will love the book because of Eloise's antics.  She loves getting into trouble .  The illustrations by Hilary Knight are really cute.  So if you like Paris and your daughter or granddaughter likes it too this is the book for you.  Check it out at your nearest library or bookstore and take a trip to Paris in your mind.
I also put another book about Eloise in the pictures so check it out too.
See you Wednesday..

The Upside-Down Frown and Splashes of Joy
by
Barbara Johnson

Little Joy went over to the Geranium Lady's house to visit.  The Geranium Lady was covered in paint as she was painting her house happier colors when she spilled a bag of marbles into the paint cans and splashed herself with a rainbow of colors.
The Geranium Lady's house was filled with bright flowers, loud polka music, smell of warm cookies and her dog Wumphee.  The Geranium Lady was working on a special project and needed Joy's help.  She said that her neighborhood was filled with sad faces, unhappy homes and gloomy gardens.  So they decide to brighten up the people with some surprise visits.  Then the Geranium Lady says. "We will make this day so joyfully fun it will turn their frowns upside down into smiles. They took Michael a big cookie and shared with him how much God loves him. Then they stop at Mary's house to brighten her face with a smile and some geranium plants that the Geranium Lady juggles for her. Then they went  to Mr. Higgen's house.  He was a grumpy old man so Joy put the Geranium Lady's hat on his head and they all laughed. Then Mary said, " She wished they had something to leave the people to remind them of God's Love.  Then the Geranium Lady had an idea.  They took the marbles splashed with many colors and gave them to people when they visited them. So Joy and the Geranium Lady would share the marbles with people as they tried to turn their frowns upside down and share God's love.

Make so Splashes of JOy

The children could make their own "Splashes of Joy"  to give to their friends.  It is a great way to remind people of God's love for them.  "Splashes of Joy" can be made of anything you want.

You can cut  fun shapes from colored paper and draw pictures or designs and then write JOY on the back. You can also cut circles out of cardboard and paint them and then decorate with glitter or sparkly beads.  Children should have a parent or grandparent to help them. I will love to do this project though.

Barbara Johnson has some great books for kids and adults.  So share one with a child or an adult today.  See you soon!!!!!!
