HELLO EVERYONE!!
HAPPY WEDNESDAY!!
Happy Fall everyone!! Fall is officially here as of Monday and I am glad that it is here. We had a wonderful day here in the midwest. It was sunny and cool , the perfect fall day. My daughter and I enjoyed being out. Also, the Kansas City Chiefs won against the Dolphins so a good day. Most of all though I am very thankful to the Lord for this lovely time of the year. I also saw some more scarecrows out in the yards of some homes. Do you have your scarecrow up yet? I hope so.
Today I would like to review another favorite scarecrow book. I have read this book several times to my former students. Afterwards we would always make a scarecrow for them to hang up at home. Scarecrows are really fun and the kids were always so creative with them.
The Scarecrow's Hat
by
Ken Brown
Chicken is out in the field when she comes upon Scarecrow. She really would like to have Scarecrow's hat and she tells him he has a nice hat and Scarecrow says he would trade it for a walking stick. He says his arms are tired and a walking stick could hold them up. Chicken doesn't have a walking stick but she knows someone who does.
Thus, begins a quest by Chicken to get a walking stick for Scarecrow so she can have his hat. She goes to each of the farm animals to see what she can find to trade to get the walking stick for Scarecrow. The question that the children have to figure out when they read the book is why does chicken want the Scarecrow's hat?
It is a really cute book with beautiful watercolor drawings by Ken Brown. So check it out at you nearest library and after reading it ask the children if they would like to make a scarecrow. It will be great fun!!!!!
Enjoy the book with your child or grandchild.
See you on Friday with another great book to read. Please post a comment or share a favorite book you love for children. I would love to hear from you.
